Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop a simple, sensitive spectrophotometric method for determining nevirapine in pharmaceutical tablet dosage forms and to validate it. The method relies on the interaction of nevirapine’s keto group with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine in acidic ethanol, forming a red-colored hydrazone with an absorption maximum at 470 nm. The pH (3–4) and reaction time were optimized for the assay. A linear relationship was established between nevirapine concentrations (10–50 μg/mL) and absorbance at 470 nm. The method was successfully applied to quantify nevirapine in tablet dosage forms and is suitable for routine determination in both simple and complex formulations.
