Abstract:

In the present study, a series of N-substituted derivatives of Nbenzyl-4-chlorobenzenesulfonamide has been synthesized. The reaction of benzylamine (1) with 4-chlorobenzenesulfonyl chloride (2) yielded the parent compound N-benzyl-4- chlorobenzenesulfonamide (3), which further on treatment with different electrophiles (4a-i) in the presence of sodium hydride furnished into N-substituted sulfonamides (5a-i). The structure 1 of synthesized compounds has been established by IR, H-NMR and EI-MS. All the compounds have been screened for their antimicrobial activity.
