Synthesis, Characterisation And Anti Microbial Activity Of Various Schiff Base Complexes Of Zinc (II) And Copper (II) Ions

Abstract

The aim of the present work is to synthesize some novel Schiff base complexs of metal ion and to evaluate their antimicrobial activi- ties. Novel Schiff base ligands derived from o-phenylenediamine, sulphanilamide and resacetophenone and its transition metal com- plexes with Cu (II) and Zn (II) have been synthesized and evaluated for their antibacterial by agar double dilution method and antifungal activity by using Sabouraud dextrose broth medium. Their spectral properties were investigated by UV, IR and NMR spectra. Com- pounds were also confirmed by elemental analysis. Titled com- pounds were evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activities against selected pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Compounds tested exhibited differential activity against all the tested bacteria and fungi. Among the investigated compounds, Cu and Zn metal complexes 2+ 2 + of (E)-4-(1-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl) ethylideneamino) benzenesulfonamide showed excellent activity against Pseudomo- nas aeruginosa, Monocus purpura, and Aspergillus nigar
