The plants contain different Phy toconst ituents , each Phytoconstituent has various therapeutic activities. The Alkaloids are well known Phytoconstituent responsible for anti-inflammatory , antioxidant, antidiabetic, antibacterial, analgesic and many other activities. Hence the present investigate initiated to study the effect Methanol extract of Alkaloid rich fraction of seeds of Achyranthes aspera Linn. (MEARFAA) on body weight, food intake, body temperature and serum lipids and glucose levels in rats. MEARFAA of A. aspera at the dose of 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg and sibutramine 7 mg/kg is administered p.o. Measurements of food intake started on day 2. Food intake, body temperature and body weight are measured daily between 8:00 and 9:00 A.M. Individual food intakes in grams were recorded. On sixteenth day, blood sample of rats was taken for estimation of glucose, cholesterol, HDL and triglycerides. MEARFAA (200 and 300 mg/kg) and sibutramine (7 mg/kg) treatments decreases the food intake of first hour in 18 hour fasted rats. Fifteen day treatment with MEARFAA (100, 200 and 300 mg/kg) and sibutramine (7 mg/kg) caused significant reduction in body weight, blood glucose and cholesterol levels
